Working towards a sustainable future is important every day, but one week a year we want to give this topic extra attention.

Sustainability Week is an annual week filled with fun and educational events, designed to inspire, and engage participants to join the sustainability movement. The week is organised by students and staff at the University of Twente, Saxion, and ROC van Twente, combining their powers to host sustainability-filled events! Through these events, the participants are given the opportunity to develop themselves in the field of sustainability, explore new topics and learn how to tackle complex environmental challenges.

About the Organizers

Learning from each other

We need experts in a wide range of topics, from improving agricultural practices to creating sustainable fashion, or bringing forth innovation to support the green energy transition, and much more. Combining the different skills and expertise at ROC van Twente, Saxion, and University of Twente, Sustainability Week 2023 aims to create a space where the participants can be inspired and learn from each other. This way, we can work towards our shared goal of a sustainable world!

Sustainability at ROC van Twente

ROC van Twente wants to give meaning to its education. We educate young people to become professionals, but also to become citizens. In doing this, sustainability is an important social theme. Now and in the future

History of Sustainability Week

The Sustainability Week is a yearly reoccurring event that focuses on promoting and inspiring a sustainability mindset to students and staff alike on the ROC of Twente, Saxion University of Applied Sciences, and the University of Twente. To host events the research institutes cooperate with a multitude of partners, each with their own inspirational story and goals that will be presented during the week.

2019.

The Sustainability Week originated at the University of Twente. During the first iteration, the University of Twente cooperated with local partners and the Dutch Sustainable Fashion Week with
the support of facility and students.

2020.

After the success of the first Sustainability Week a partnership was formed between the University of Twente, ROC van Twente and Saxion University of Applied Sciences. With this partnership the aim was to inspire more students, young professionals and staff for the different aspects of sustainability.

2021.

Even with the challenges due to the Covid-19 pandemic the second edition inspired the institutes to continue their partnership and increase the scope of the Sustainability Week. With its origins in Enschede, it has now a regional impact with events in multiple cities to connect to and inspire even more staff, students and others to sustainability.

2022.

This was a successful edition with many activities where students and staff gained new knowledge, discovered new topics and came up with solutions to complex sustainability challenges.
