About us

LG Sustainability Week-Butterflies.png

Realizing a sustainable future requires something from us every day. During the annual Sustainability Week, we organise fun and educational events, aiming to inspire participants to embrace the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s). The week is organised by and for students and employees of ROC van Twente, Saxion and University of Twente. During this week, participants gain knowledge about sustainability, discover new themes and devise solutions to sustainability challenges.

About the organizers

Learning from each other

A sustainable world cannot be achieved alone. We need experts in areas such as agricultural improvement, sustainable fashion and green energy innovation. Every educational institution has its own inspiring story and goals around sustainability, all of which will be addressed during this week.

Together, we work towards a sustainable world!

Sustainability at ROC van Twente

As ROC van Twente, we are aware that we are not alone in the world. Society asks us to be flexible. The professional field is always evolving and the only constant is that the world is constantly changing.

Within this changing environment, we have identified a number of themes & developments that are important and to which we want to make a valuable contribution. One of these is 'Thinking & acting sustainably'. In our dealings with each other, in our cooperation with partners and the rest of the world. Now and in the future.

Saxion Green Office

The Saxion Green Office is the place at Saxion where we anchor the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). From the Green Office, we inspire, enthuse and activate students and staff to contribute to the SDGs.

In addition, the Green Office ensures that sustainable initiatives become visible to all of Saxion and we try to increase student involvement in these initiatives. We organise events and bring about cooperation. The Saxion Green Office's ambition is to make the SDGs part of the DNA of staff and students.

History of Sustainability Week

2019.

The Sustainability Week originated at the University of Twente. During the first iteration, the University of Twente cooperated with local partners and the Dutch Sustainable Fashion Week with
the support of facility and students.

2020.

After the success of the first Sustainability Week a partnership was formed between the University of Twente, ROC van Twente and Saxion University of Applied Sciences. With this partnership the aim was to inspire more students, young professionals and staff for the different aspects of sustainability.

2021.

Even with the challenges due to the Covid-19 pandemic the second edition inspired the institutes to continue their partnership and increase the scope of the Sustainability Week. With its origins in Enschede, it has now a regional impact with events in multiple cities to connect to and inspire even more staff, students and others to sustainability.

2022.

This was a successful edition with many activities where students and staff gained new knowledge, discovered new topics and came up with solutions to complex sustainability challenges.

2023.

We look back on a successful week full of activities and events, where everyone could get acquainted with sustainable initiatives in the Twente region and get inspired to contribute to a sustainable society themselves.
